Topic 1: Mental Health First Aid

Brief Overview: Mental Health First Aid is a training for individuals and organizations whose aim is to provide them with the skills to identify and assist someone who is developing a mental health challenge or is experiencing a mental health crisis such as: Depression, anxiety, panic attacks or the after-effects of trauma or bereavement. In the Mental Health First Aid training, you learn the risk factors, warning signs, and strategies to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. In addition, the presentation introduces people to risk factors and warning signs and builds an understanding on their impact and provides an overview of common treatments.

Brief Overview: Positive social connections are essential for our mental health and can help us cope in times of stress. In the current crisis, whether you are quarantined due to suspected exposure, staying home because you are in a high-risk category, or at home to help prevent the spread of infection, staying at home with limited human contact can have a significant impact on our mental well-being – and in particular, feelings of loneliness that will likely follow.

This workshop introduces people to tips and tools on how to cope with isolation and feelings of loneliness and how to maintain our social networks using available methods of communication during the corona virus pandemic.
