Introduction and Objectives
- Living through a world crisis as we all are now with COVID-19 can exacerbate difficulties that we may have been experiencing for some time. Group therapy can aid in providing relief and effective ways to cope with these difficulties.
- The purpose of group therapy is to give group members a chance to connect and share their feelings, emotions and experiences. A few of the key factors to group therapy are confidentiality and commitment to attendance, along with maintaining anonymity for the effectiveness of group process.
- Furthermore, it allows group members to receive support and encouragement from other members of the group and to help them feel less alone or isolated.
- It provides an opportunity for group members to act as role models for other members. Some members may be more successful at managing certain types of problems and so people can share their experiences and learn from each other.
- It aims at providing a safe environment for group members to practice new behaviors without fear of judgement.

Structure and Proposed Topics
Therapeutic Modality: Group Therapy
Location: Online through Microsoft Teams or Zoom
Type: Closed group or One on One
Number of participants: 8 – 10 max

Duration and frequency: Once a week for 3 months (frequency can be increased depending on numbers)
The group facilitator will provide psychoeducation and allow for the processing of the information presented. The topics discussed in group therapy will depend on the focus of the group , some proposed ones include:
- Physical health: sleep hygiene, how to address emotional eating, barriers to exercise
- Emotional health: healthy coping, identifying and combating feelings of anxiety, identifying and addressing feelings of sadness, identifying triggers and emotions and their impact on your body
- Coping with change: negative thinking patterns, relaxation techniques and mindfulness, problem solving techniques
- Interpersonal difficulties: communication skills, assertiveness, conflict management , healthy boundaries
- Social influences: media influence, shifting your life online price
