Camali Story

A Journey Born of Compassion: The Heart of Camali Clinic

The name Camali comes from the Arabic word كمال (Camal), which means Completeness - the state of being complete and entire; having everything that is needed.

Camali Clinic was founded on the core principles of understanding, compassion, and the unwavering belief in the power of holistic healing. Our story began with Benny, a child whose life was overshadowed by crippling social anxiety and withdrawal, making every school day a source of fear. Benny felt shy and nervous around others, making every morning extremely difficult. His parents noticed him withdrawing and realised they needed to find help for their child.

Faced with a fragmented healthcare system, Benny’s parents tried to navigate a maze of care options that often created more confusion than clarity. Their journey was marked by costly treatments that only skimmed the surface of Benny’s challenges, sometimes doing more harm than good.

This is the basis of what brought together Nadia Dabbagh, a psychiatrist trained at the prestigious Tavistock Clinic, and Katie Laing, a psychiatric nurse with roots in the renowned Maudsley training. They recognised the desperate need for a shift in addressing mental health care within the region—a shift towards unity, understanding, and comprehensive care. This led to the founding of Camali Clinic, the UAE’s first genuinely holistic mental health centre.
